DOL (Direct On Line) Motor Starters

What is a DOL Motor Starter?

DOL motor starters (also known as a direct on line starter or across the line starter) operate a simple stop / start switch for 3 phase induction motors. They are used in a wide range of industrial applications where a reliable motor is required including small water pumps, compressors, fans and conveyer belts.

A direct on line starter is connected directly and works by applying the full line voltage to the motor terminals, despite this direct connection, no harm is done to the motor and not only do they provide the safe starting current but also provide protection to keep the motor safe during operation.

DOL motor starters can only be used in circumstances when the high inrush current of the motor does not cause an excessive voltage drop in the supply circuit. If a high voltage drop needs to be avoided, a star delta starter should be used instead.

The Range

The range is available in 110V/240/415V versions with various Amp & kW. Options include device only, as well as complete units housed in an IP65 ABS enclosure or IP54 Metal Enclosure with all units featuring integrated STOP/START buttons. Direct On Line starters should be fitted with overload protection (sold separately) devices to prevent short circuits and overheating.
