Running with Purpose: Ricky Mahendra Laxmidas’s Half Marathon for The Royal Papworth Hospital

In September 2024, Ricky Mahendra Laxmidas took on the challenge of running a half marathon with a powerful purpose: to raise funds for The Royal Papworth Hospital’s charity. His run was not just about reaching the finish line but about honoring the resilience of those touched by the hospital’s extraordinary work and supporting the life-changing care it provides.

Why He Chose The Royal Papworth Hospital Charity

One year ago, Ricky’s family experienced a profound moment of gratitude when his nephew received the gift of a second chance at life following a diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy. Thanks to a heart donor and their family, his nephew’s life was transformed. “This incredible gift has truly changed our lives and brought us light once again,” Ricky shared. In gratitude and solidarity, Ricky and a group of supporters decided to participate in the half marathon to raise funds and awareness for the hospital that had done so much for their family.

Preparing for the Race

Ricky’s journey began with determination and careful preparation. He shared that he prepared by training himself to “run at the right pace and mix long runs with walking speed,” ensuring he could handle the distance with confidence. This dedication to training reflects the same resilience he admired in the patients and staff at The Royal Papworth Hospital

Reflecting on the Event

While Ricky’s team didn’t reach their initial goal of £5,000, the journey itself proved to be incredibly rewarding. Completing the 20k run became even more meaningful as the miles passed, knowing every step was helping make a difference for families in need of hope and healing. “We thank everyone who donated,” Ricky expressed, emphasizing that each contribution brought them closer to supporting the hospital’s vital mission.

Looking to the Future

Ricky’s commitment doesn’t end here. Inspired by this year’s experience, he plans to continue running for a cause that holds such deep personal significance. Join Ricky in making a difference for families facing similar challenges. Together, let’s ensure The Royal Papworth Hospital can continue to offer the care and hope they deserve.
