Taking Steps Together for Young Minds

2nd March 2023/

Nowadays, employees spend an estimated 65-75% of their workday sitting, which can affect health and well-being, and overall quality of life.

Workplace step challenges are an increasingly popular way to encourage employee well-being at work.
Some benefits of a workplace walking challenge include:

  • Promoting a culture of goal-setting and achievement
  • Building teamwork and group cooperation
  • Encouraging healthy habits among employees

The Europa Step Challenge is a 2-week online wellness competition designed to increase employee physical activity and encourage participants to take 10,000 steps each day.
The charity we are supporting is Young Minds - Fighting for young people’s mental health. The purpose of the challenge is to support Children’s Mental Health week – 6th-12th Feb and gives us the opportunity to raise awareness and much-needed funds.

Step counts were submitted to our HR Manager and she kept track using a leaderboard. Along with raising funds for Young Minds, there was a prize for the individual with the highest overall step count.

We have raised £500 for Young Minds. Liam Speight was the overall winner and won an amazon voucher.

31 colleagues took part in the challenge and submitted their total step count. Together we achieved an overall number of 2,929,560.00 steps, this means together we stepped all the way from Luton to Sicily in southern Italy!

The top five steppers were:

  1. Liam Speight - 193,281       *** Winner ***
